About us

We are a small team, based in the heart of Cornwall. We work hard to produce food made with care. Almost everything is chopped by hand, stirred with a wooden spoon and cooked in small preserving pans, this is what gives our products their unique textures and qualities.  Everything is checked and labelled by hand before being matured and sent out to retailers.

We source as many of our ingredients locally as possible:

  • Herbs, some tomatoes and some apples from our garden.
  • More apples from private orchards nearby and we are often invited to pick first.
  • Beetroot from neighbouring farmers and growers.
  • Crab apples from the Roseland Peninsula.
  • Some onions.
  • Kea plums direct from Coombe.
  • Cider vinegar, cider and Lord of the Isles apples from Cornish Orchards at Duloe.
  • British Sugar: when we can we like to use British grown beet sugar.

Sometimes Cornish is impossible and to get the quality of raw material needed we look further than the Tamar, to the orchards and growers of Worcestershire (damsons and Victoria plums) Kent and Essex for quinces.

Some ingredients are not produced in the UK, dried fruit, spices and citrus fruits then we use local wholesalers and suppliers who understand business in Cornwall!

Our accountants, lawyers, designers and printers are all local and we appreciate the quality of their services.

We compost as much of our peelings and waste as possible and recycle packaging whenever we can. We make as much use as possible of local distribution hubs, keeping food miles to a minimum.

Our leaflets are printed on recycled paper

Along with the purchased ingredients a huge amount of care is added to every jar which of course you can taste!   We hope when you ring or get in touch we will offer you a personal and individual service.
