Quirky condiments

These products defy categorisation; we make them because we fell in love with them at the development stage and thought others might like them too!

Quince Charming

Great Taste Award 2009

A traditional quince conserve. Brilliant cherry red /orange colour, superb unique flavour, spreads like jam or marmalade with toast or scones.  In Continental Europe this sort of sweet conserve would be served with cheese making a very unusual combination well worth trying. This has long been one of our most sought after products and very popular.

We source the Quinces from the only commercial quince orchard left in England!  Some come from a tree owned by Deborah's mother and others from the National Fruit Collection at Brogdale in Kent.

Preserved Lemons

Lemons when preserved in salt become lemony but no longer bitter or sour. So much so they can be eaten, once rinsed, as they are or alongside nuts or olives as a nibble.! A staple ofMorrocan and Mediterranean larders they make an excellent accompaniment to chicken and barbecued meats; once rinsed, the flesh discarded, the chopped skin goes well in couscous or pasta salads, alongside lamb dishes or in salad dressings. A very interesting product that arrived on the Crellow list after a request from an enthusiastic stockist who couldn't find them anywhere.

Fruit Cheeses

These have nothing at all to do with milk or dairy products!

Rich, sliceable (like cheese, that's the similarity), fruit preserves. Traditionally served in tiny portions with cheese or served with whipped cream (in Cornwall the clotted variety could be substituted!) as a sweet meat to end a meal. Ideal for those who would prefer a nibble of dessert!

Intense but not particularly sweet with a stiff and fruity texture.

Kea Plum Cheese

Cornish Damsons have been stewed with a bit of cinnamon to give a delicious almost savoury tang to the end product. We've tried this with cream of some sort, crème brulee and other lush dairy products! Available in 500g trays for caterin.

Quince Cheese

Traditional method of preserving these fruits.  In Spain and Portugal served with cured pork products, or in Cornwall with Deli Farm Charcuterie.  It can be served as a sweet meat dusted with icing sugar. Sliced with hard cheeses this unusual preserve has a brilliant terracotta colour. Available in 500g trays for catering use. Currently out of stock.

Marmalades

We have been persuaded......... so we now offer three different but seasonal products.

Father's Favourite Seville Orange Marmalade - a bronze star at The Original Marmalade Competition February 2010.

Michael spends January and if necessary a bit of February chopping these Spanish oranges for this very traditional thick cut orange marmalade.  The recipe comes from the same source as Father's Favourite Chutney and is both seasonal and traditional.  It is a version of this we supply, with great pride, to Hotel Tresanton in St Mawes.

Available in 1.2kg pails. If you are a caterer and interested in this product please phone for further details.

Once the Seville Marmalade is sold out - usually during the summer we make

Summer Marmalade

A delicious, lighter coloured, zingy flavoured orange and lemon marmalade, still a chunky cut.  This can be made and supplied all year.

Available in 1.2kg pails. If you are a caterer and interested in this product please phone for further details.

Rhubarb and Grapefruit Marmalade

A product designed to use the glut of home-grown rhubarb, it still has a citrus tang but the rhubarb flavour is present too.  Depends how much rhubarb we have to use up but stocks usually available until Christmas.
